The Conspirator starts filming
Posted by Jasmine with No Comments
Robert Redford’s new movie, “The Conspirator” began filming in downtown Savannah today. Taylor Street around Chatham Square does not look like it usually does. The cobblestone is covered with dirt and several of the homes have red, white and blue draped along the outside.
Robert Redford is on the set with the cast and crew, which drew the attention of locals and tourists alike. Tonight on News 3 at 6, we’ll take you to day one of filming and tell you what on-lookers think about the movie being filmed here.
Jay Self, Savannah’s film commissioner says the movie is expected to draw $8-$10 million for the Savannah economy.
The movie is supposed to wrap filming on December 15th.

The Conspirator begins shooting October 12

Hollywood actors looking for work can now try their luck in Savannah.
Starting October 12, the American Production Company will commence production of Robert Redford’s new movie, “The Conspirator.”
In the film, based on a true story, boarding house owner Mary Surratt is charged with conspiracy to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln, a time when the city was bent on avenging the death of the president.
Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth, and six other men plotted the assassinations at Surratt’s boarding house.
Aiken reluctantly takes on the task of defending Surratt’s case before a military tribunal. As the story plays out, he begins to believe in her innocence and realizes she might be being used as bait to lure out the one conspirator that has yet to be caught: her son.
Surratt will be played by Robin Wright Penn, and James McAvoy will play her on-screen protector Frederick Aiken.
The company decided to shoot the film in Savannah because of the city’s upkeep and the feel of the historic district.
“[Savannah] is a perfect stand-in for 1865 Washington D.C. The production is currently planning to film at several locations including Fort Jackson, Fort Pulaski, the US Custom House, The Andrew Low House and the Davenport House Museum,” according to a press release by publicist Dee Poku.
These locations provide historical accuracy of the time period as well as the ability to shoot onsite instead of building an set.
Needless to say, the incoming production will have an effect on the Savannah community and those residing in it. Production will provide jobs for Savannah locals.
Calls for extras in the film have been listed and auditions will take place at Oglethorpe Mall.
Like any other movie or event in Savannah, the filming of “The Conspirator” will help Savannah’s largest source of income: tourism. The film will potentially boost the popularity of historic sites once they hit the big screen.

The Last Station Release Date
Posted by Jasmine with No Comments
According to this article the limited release date is Dec 23 and the possible worldwide release date will begin on Feb 5, 2010.
A few days ago there were whispers on the winds that “The Last Station” had been picked up by a specialty division with a number of art house releases primed for the season. All signs pointed to Sony Pictures Classics.
Today we get a confirmation (and I’ve independently verified) that, indeed, the film is a new awards hopeful in the Sony Classics stable. This has been the natural fit, in my view, since I saw the film at Telluride.
So, expect lead acting campaigns for Christopher Plummer and Helen Mirren, the latter being a definite possibility. Also, I’m sure supporting campaigns for James McAvoy and Paul Giamatti will be in store, odds on the former more than the latter.
And cngrats to Michael Hoffman for finding a home for his film, a tight, warm, well-made piece of work that deserves a look if only to see these wonderful actors working off of one another.
The film will hit theaters in limited release on December 23.

Mirren stars as Tolstoy’s conniving wife, Countess Sofya. Ann-Marie Duff also stars, playing Tolstoy’s youngest daughter Sasha.
